A little unnatural
“Do you live near here?” This second sentence is fine, but it seems like an abrupt change of subject.

Natural
The hear -> here thing matters, but the two questions sound natural to me. When you meet someone new in a park, this is a normal conversation. If you change "what you do in Japan" to "what kind of work do you do", it's more culturally sensitive - but either way is fine.

Thanks!
