El verbo "ser" indica características permanentes de la persona, cosa o animal. Cosas que normalmente no pueden cambiar. Por ejemplo:
-Soy árabe.
-Soy alto/bajo o alta/baja.
-Soy ingeniero/a (por ejemplo) o soy estudiante.
-La avenida es muy grande.
-Mi coche es de color azul.
-Mi perro es un pastor alemán.
-Mi madre es vegetariana.
-Mi casa es grande/pequeña...
La RAE dice que el verbo "estar" sirve para expresar un determinado estado del sujeto. Por ejemplo:
-Estoy en la casa de mi amigo/a.
-Estoy cansado/a.
-Estoy muy contento/a o estoy triste.
-Mi perro está ladrando.
-Mi hermano/a está limpiando la cocina.
-El supermercado está al otro lado de la calle.
-Mi coche está aparcado en el garaje.
-Creo que estoy enfermo...
