I want to talk with foreigners in real life to practice my oral English. what should I say?how to say can extend our chatting time? Could I ask him directly?such as" in your country, what people usually talk about ". if this is impolite?

yes they are different
in first sentence, person has some place in mind like bar, hill station, theatre etc
in second sentence the focus is on what is done for fun, the activities like biking, swimming, go for movies

it's not, it's curiosity, just don't ask too many personal questions. find more common interest to talk about like music movies or books, it will ease the awkwardness then you can chat easily without formalities
