Ali baba is a fictional character from the old arabic heritage:
Ali baba was an extremely rich man some stories refer to Ali baba as a thief who had 40 tiny thieves work for him. other stories say that Ali baba was a kind man and the thief was his brother qasem and the 40 thieves worked for qasem and Ali baba was so pour he lived in a small house and later on he became rich.

So, basically whem someone says you're like Ali baba it means that you're very rich and it can also mean you're a mysterious person or you're a thief

but im in iraq now

most of iraqi using it for bad meaning (cheating)

so i wonder about the meaning and origin

one of my friend (also iraqi) told me that the story of alibaba

long time ago one old guy(he's name is Ali) live in iraq has stolen something
and others talk behind of him that he did cheating again (i though that is not first time)

then my friend told me that Ali is he's name, and Baba is old

so i understood that is old man Ali cheating something is origin of Alibaba

(sorry for ma english grammar :) )
