Question about English (US)

Is this phrase right? What is "incorrect" referred to? Planets? But this doesn't make any sense to me. How can be a planet incorrect? Maybe a theory can be incorrect...

"Barnard's star is an infamous object among astronomers and exoplanet scientists, as it was one of the first stars where planets were initially claimed but later proven to be incorrect,”
