from this sentence, I guess that you both wanted to wear the same outfit.
私は友達と同じ服を着た。
I wore the same outfit as my friend.
in this case, I guess that only you wanted to wear the same outfit as your friend. I don't know if your friend wanted to wear the same outfit as you.
私と友達は同（おな）じ物（もの）を食（た）べた。
my friend and I ate the same food.
私は友達と同じものを食べた。
I ate the same food as my friend.
but sometimes they both are the same.
私と友達は一緒に東京へ行った。
私は友達と一緒に東京へ行った。
