Instead of "get better", can "do better" be said to a person who is ill?
For example, your friend is in hospital. "I hope he's doing better. I should visit him."

Yes, you can say, "Is he doing any better", or "I hope he's doing better", but "get better" is still preferred, especially when speaking to the sick person. You wouldn't say, "I hope you do better".

they can both be used in different ways example:
"She can do better on her next test"
"She seems to do better than most people working at night.
"He needs to get better grades before the end of the semester.
but other than that your examples are great to.
