I am a middle-aged man. When I was young, I often saw people read manga magazines in cafes, trains to kill their time. Now, I rarely see those scenes. People including me always use smartphones for Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and so on.
Other than that, Japanese people still enjoy going to malls. In the US, some malls might be losing momentum and be abandoned, but this is not the case in Japan. When I went to my country for a short visit last year, I went to a mall with my mum. That place was packed with a large crowd. This made me a bit wonder as e-commerce is very prevalent nowadays.

"(This guy is here to pull his country down because he couldn't be adjusted to it.)"
And it seems that some guys are (or a guy is?) on this site only to write "What @Takamura_san says is wrong." 😛 I am very wondering why some different accounts write almost the same things about me.

Sorry, I know what I wrote is not for you. It might be annoying for you to read an ugly conversation between me and another person.

Ahh...ok, ok, before I give up my citizenship, you should stop using multiple accounts or changing accounts frequently. Ok?
Anyway, we should not talk about this anymore. This is not a place only for you.

It depends. There are much more options than before. So it's difficult to answer. Isn't it same as US?
When it comes to malls and e commerce, I agree with undertherainjp. Although I don't always have same opinions with her, honestly speaking I'm always fed up with Takamura_san's opinions. But unfortunately he is also representative of some Japanese.

Hi, can I ask you a simple question? Did you often see people read manga magazines in cafes, or coffee shops, or trains in the 2000s? In my experience, before people started using smartphones on a daily basis, reading paper media including manga was very common in Japan. This is rather general knowledge, I think.
It is okay if you don't like me(I don't dislike you). However, I don't think it is precise to say "In Japan, Adults don't read manga in public."

@Takamura_san It seems sales of manga magagine are decreasing. But it's same with other print publications. I saw many people who read news papers in trains before. They are obviously decreasing. It must be related to increasing of smartphones. So I agree with your thought about influence of smartphones. But SNS utilization rate of Japanese is relatively low according to some surveys.

Very thanks and sorry for answering. So, did you often see people read manga magazines in trains, coffee and tea shops in the 2000s? I did.

@Takamura_san I think more people were reading manga in trains than now. But I feel that it's more remarkable that newspaper readers have decreased.

Although sometimes/often our opinions are different, but I think you are not a bad person. It seems that you want to be honest, at least. Sorry for my frank and rough words. I am a little worried about the current situation here. It is okay for me whether or not undertherainjp's opinion is different from mine. That difference is very common. Rather, I want to embrace differences no matter where I am. However, he/she often attacks others, not only me, as you know. And he/she changes his/her account very frequently. It doesn't seem good for this place. Questioners here are interested in Japan. That kind of behaviour alienates them. It might not be my business, though.
Anyway, I will not write answers as frequently as now because I am going to change my working hours and will not have time for writing answers here.

As you wrote, having diverse people and diverse opinions have a big meaning not only for our country but also for any places on this globe. However, I am very suspicious whether what his/her does is favourable to this place. I came back here two or three weeks ago, since then I have seen three or four people triggered by him/her. Considering that It is only in two or three weeks, I don't think this is productive and makes users here enjoy communicating with Japanese speakers, or build a good reputation of both Japan and Japanese people. More importantly, he/she has changed his account, at least, three times only in two years. No one should not do such a suspicious thing. It might have been that he/she was banned repeatedly because of many arguments and insultings, so he/she had no choice but to change his/her account. Of course, I don't have concrete evidence as I am not a member of HiNative management.
Anyway, thank you for responding to me.

If he/she tries to correct distorted images of Japan, I would rather welcome it. However, what he/she claimed in the past is:
An average starting salary for fresh graduates is 260 thousand yen.
Japanese people don't read manga in public.
This is totally baseless, far from the reality as if he/she lived in a different Japan on a different Earth. This is not even a matter of perception. Not telling true things, insulting others, his/her presence seems to have a negative effect on this website. This is not my business, though. Anyway, thank you.

I admit that I only know a very small part of each country. Ultimately, I am a foreigner or guest no matter where I am or how long I have been. Anyway, both of us understand one simple fact: "All people are different and all are, more or less, biased." So, we can find common ground and an amicable solution between us. This is good enough for me.
As for the current atmosphere of Japan section on this app, it is talked a little at this place.

You can read what other people feel. They seem to have a similar impression as I have. There are some interpretations regarding what the cause is. It might be because of a specific person, or it might be because of Japan's trait.
