「私は日本人です」というと、言いたいことは、日本人になります。あなたはどこの国の人ですかという質問の答えに使います。それに対して、「私が日本人です」というと、言いたいことが私になるので、「日本人は誰ですか」という質問の答えになります。

は and が are put at the end of nouns to make the nouns the subjects of the sentences.
は
わたしは、そのパンをたべました。
I ate the bread. So that is just an action of the subject.
サンドイッチはおいしいです。
The sandwich tastes good.
That's just a fact.
わたしが そのパンをたべました。
It's me who ate the bread, not anyone else.
が emphasizes the subject of the sentence.
の means ''~'s'' or ''of,'' making possessive form.
私の本=わたしのほん=my book
シャツの柄=シャツの がら=the pattern of a/the shirt
