This is a peculiar wording. Is there more context?

I couldn't see someone's birthday. He said he got presents from his friends. And then he asked that..
- English (US)
If this was spoken, then I think it would be written "When is your birthday -- spring?" and it is asking when your birthday is, and adding a guess that it is in spring. A longer way to say it would be "When is your birthday? Is it in the springtime?"
