Just ask them for directions to the nearest Coles or Woolworths (Woolies). If you are staying near Wynyard Station, the nearest Woolies is at Metcentre.

I'm from Perth, Western Australia. Most people here just say the name of the grocery store (e.g. I am going to Woolies/Coles). Also I haven't heard anyone here say "I am going to the supermarket/grocery store". But someone might say "I will get the groceries later"/"I'm going to the shops". Hope this sheds some light on your question (:

Many people say I’m going to the shops. Or say I’m going to woolies or coles.

@MrJay I don’t think I’ve ever used the word “supermarket” in a normal sentence before when talking to friends and family. I haven’t heard any of them say “supermarket” either. Although I don’t really use the word “grocery” either, I usually just say which grocery store I’m going to. For example I’d say something like, “I’m just going down to ALDI, I’ll be back soon.” (ALDI is the name of a grocery store/supermarket that a lot of Australians go to). I hope this helped.
