Generally speaking, I see the Japanese as mature people. I really like the fact that they respect the well-being of others. This is different from some European countries where people tend to be selfish. Thus, we find polite, clean, and styled people who are not too extravagant in situations that do not lend themselves to it, etc.

However, several people have already told me that the Japanese prefer rules to common sense. In addition, I noticed it here on HiNative when users in the Japanese section responded in a rude and condescending way to young foreign users who were probably a little too naive. I have the impression that the notion of "culture shock" is not well known or understood.

For what i saw, the way of thinking of japanese people seem so different compared to the french ! It's totally a culture shook xD but I respect their discipline and their caring for others. I heard that they don't like debating or arguing and prefer to avoid conflicts in general (idk if it's true). They seem to be welcoming too, but not very open to others countries who are not US or asian.

@moonie- Thank you!! In my opinion, in Japanese society, it is considered as virtue to read the air and adjust to majority rather than having their own opinion. In education, it is better to reach the correct answer faster than debating... Let me ask a question, did you feel that when you actually visited Japan?(not very open attitude)

@Midori-lily I've never been to Japan ! But I've seen a lot of videos, documentaries, interviews, articles, reports, shows, etc... I do that for some others countries :)
