Question about Japanese
To Japanese learners,
I was just curious, how do you learn Japanese verb conjugation? How do they teach verb conjugation in Japanese class? They teach 五段活用, 上一段活用, 下一段活用 etc. at Japanese elementary school, but do they teach the same thing in your Japanese class or text book?

Yes and no. 普段は「ます」から教えます。その後五十段と一段を教えるんです。How they teach conjugation depends on the teacher.
I learned by reading a lot of grammar books.

I learned a lot using the JED dictionary which gives the all the different conjugations (including passive and causative). I learned from the dictionary form (〜う) first, and there seem to be no structure involving memorizing or teaching the 五段 forms in my university (I skipped to the advanced classes, so I can't say for the basic). The textbooks I used (Minna no Nihongo) did not mention anything about the 五段 either, but I kind of figured it out when I went to a language school for 1 month.
