In Canada it's normal to say thank you for small things such as asking for directions and questions, and the server showing you to the table, filling your water, etc.
In Japan what is the common way to say thank you in these occasions? Do you say どうも?すみません?ありがとうございます?or do you say nothing? Do you only bow?
