its@ozix It's kind of like the American/British differences (harbor vs harbour, etc) but it's also very different since it's two official version of written language (of one spoken language) within the same country.
Some common words that differ are (bokmål first, then nynorsk) jeg/eg, ikke/ikkje, hva/kva, hvem/kven, hvordan/korleis, se/sjå, bo/bu. Also verbs and nouns are conjugated slightly differently between the two.
Bokmål is (by far) the most used variant, and the easiest to find learning material for, so I recommend you stick to that when studying. You might not even have a choice :/

They mean the same (not), but "ikke" is bokmål and "ikkje" is nynorsk. Look it up online if you do not know the difference between bokmål and nynorsk, and to find out which one you should learn :)
