How do you say this in English (US)? Is there a word or expression to describe someone who answers with short replies? answering like yes, no, thanks, ok, alright etc not really putting any effort into the conversations.

Hmm, I don't think there's any direct expression for that. The general term would probably just be verbs like 'uninterested', 'half-hearted', 'bland', 'boring', etc. along those lines.

I agree with the comment above there is no direct expression for that, but I think the most technical term would be "monosyllabic"
you usually say that someone answers you with monosyllables when someone is being "short" or "brief" with you.

Being blunt is more like they are telling you something in a straight and honest way that may sound rude but is the truth. If you want to sound kind about it, you can say they are a person of few words. I haven't heard anyone be called a short talker before but there isn't a rule against it.
