@makkori It would likely be misunderstood to mean what it says.
If you didn't think the joke was funny. "Oh man, that was so bad." Your tone would be slightly mocking, in a friendly way. If the joke was offensive. "That's not funny!" again in a appropriately chastising tone.

No. "Shut the fuck up." is almost always said in anger. If a group of friends normally talk to each other in that way, it's ok, as long as you know who is listening.
