Question about English (UK)

I wonder if the use of "an English academy" instead of " a language school/centre", is used correctly or is a false friend from Spanish speaker. In Spanish we say “academia” for any extra school activity involving teaching of a subject, but to my mind an academy in English has nothing to do with a language school centre. Am I right?
