In many Hollywood movies, the apartments the characters live in look spacious and well decorated, even they aren’t rich. I wonder is it true, especially in big cities such as NY or Los Angeles?

Could you tell me how much it costs for a general one bedroom apartment in NY? And how much the salary of the person who could afford it?

You're right: sitcoms are famous for showing apartments that are much too big.

A one-bedroom apartment in New York City can easily cost $3,000-$7,000 a month. In smaller cities and towns it is easier to find a space for around $500-$800 a mo th. It is recommended that no more than 30% of your income should be spent on housing.

@dongelev85 thank you for your answer. So the person who rents a $7000 apartment must earn at least $23,000 a month, that means $280,000 a year!!! Very huge amount for me!
I couldn’t imagine how much salary of the people who live in fancy 2-3 bedrooms or more.
