el. 1. Artículo determinado, también llamado definido. Antecede siempre al sustantivo y su función principal es asociar el contenido semántico de este con un referente concreto, consabido por los interlocutores: El cartero ha pasado hoy un poco más tarde; o con un referente genérico: El cerdo es un animal doméstico.
Por su parte, lo suele considerarse como artículo neutro por su capacidad de sustantivar adjetivos y determinadas oraciones de relativo: lo malo, lo que está mal; para muchos lingüistas se trata, en cambio, de un pronombre.
El plural de "el" es "los", pero no confundas "lo" con "el", como dice aquí "lo" se usa en ocasiones contadas y hay opiniones distintas sobre si considerarlo "artículo neutro" o "pronombre".
