Question about English (US)
In the U.S, Is it uncommon to spend time with their partner(boyfriend or girlfriend) on Christmas Eve or new year's day instead of with their family ? I've heard it's one of culture shock experiences Japanese will experience.(most Japanese tend to spend romantic time with their partner especially on Christmas Eve, and also one of my girl friends happend to quarrel with her boyfriend because she mentioned to spend time with her family on Christmas Eve)

It's more common to see couples spending time with each family. So they may go see the boy's family on Christmas eve and the girl's family on Christmas day (& vice versa) or they may split Christmas day and go see one family in the morning and one family in the evening. (Same for Thanksgiving)
Generally New Years Eve/Day would be spent as a couple with friends or going out. Not with family.
