in = inside or like within something
on = on top of something
for example
I am standing ON the floor ✔️
I am standing IN the floor ❌
because i am on the floor, not inside the floor!
another example
I am IN the water✔️
I am ON the water ❌
because you cannot stand on water, but you can be inside or underwater
