grammatically speaking, the second is correct. however, we tend to use the first one more often. either is acceptable, so it doesn’t matter which you use

It is either I told him ( without just) or have just told him.. the later means it happened later or before a while ago... but ( I told him) happens hours.. days.. or years ago
