„Znajomi” - people who generally you know. It is a broad term. It can be: friends, girlfriend, siblings, neighbors and people in your job or who you met on workshops or party.
“Przyjaciele” - people who are really close to you. You can talk to them about secrets and you can rely on them in case of problems.

actually in polish there are 3 "levels" of knowing/liking someone:
znajomy (acquaintance) is someone who you know, but they aren't so close to you (AnetteAnna explained it very well)
przyjaciel (friend) is a person, who is very close to you, some people call them even brother or sister.
but there is something between those: kolega. These are people who you like, and you spend your time with them, but they are not as close as friends. (polish people use this term quite often)
I hope this makes sense:)

znajomy - those you have already known from vision or few times of talking, kolega - a person whom you have few things in common like: working in the same office...przyjaciel is your close friend but still not a best friend yet :)
