Not much difference. A track can be a rough route (through a forest for example) that many people have created themselves by walking over time. A trail can be more of an official route guided by signs and milestones.

They are often the same when used as nouns. As verbs they are very different. Trail also has the meaning of something left behind :"a snail's trail" "a trail of evidence". "The tracker followed the trail left by the deer."

A trail is a path made by people or animals. It can be small and narrow. A track may have been made by vehicles. It is probably wider and normally hard dirt or gravel suitable for vehicles and bikes. For this reason, mountain bikers call tracks that vehicles can't use, 'single track'.

A track is a man made item. Eg: race track, train track or running track.
A trail is made by nature. Eg: deer tail, rabbit trail or hiking trail.
Native speakers use them as synonyms. This is incorrect but widly accepted.
