hmmm... no one says “don’t drink enough to cough it up.” this just doesn’t make sense.

When saying “don’t drink so much you cough it up”, I would probably say “don’t drink some much you throw it up” instead, since this is what can happen as a result of too much drinking.

but “enough” doesn’t fit here, because it means to get as much as is required. there is no requirement to how much you drink, so it really just doesn’t make sense here.
