coloquialmente, se utiliza el termino doctor para referirse a una persona que ejerce la medicina, sin embargo, lo correcto es llamarlo medico, un doctor sería una persona con el grado de estudios de un doctorado.

"Doctor" es una profesión:
~ Mi padre es doctor.
~ El doctor salvó mi vida.
~ Estoy estudiando para ser doctor.
"Médico/a" es algo relacionado con la medicina; es un adjetivo, pero se puede usar como sinónimo de "doctor":

Un médico es una persona calificada para el ejercicio de la medicina. Un doctor es una persona que adquirió el grado más alto en una profesión que no necesariamente es en el ámbito médico, también pueden ser carreras de ingenieria, derecho, ciencias, etc...
