"appunto" is something you write while listening someone or reading something in order to fix some ideas.
you can also use "note" in the same meaning
ho preso appunti sulla lezione
ho preso delle note sulla lezione
but
nota is also a comment you find at the bottom of the page in a book.
I mean, already printed in the book, not written by you.
so, you can find some author's "nota" or some translator "nota", but not an author's "appunto"
