Elsker deg is most often used in a romantic setting to your bf/gf or similar ("I love you"). Glad i deg is not as strong and can also be used for friends and family.

@spektrum "glad" literally means happy. I think the most accurate translation for that sentence would be "I cherish you".

It means something like "I care about you" and can be used for any close person in your life. In a romantic relationship you'd say this as well ("elsker deg" is too strong to say early in a relationship). You can definitely say this to close friends if you want to express how much you appreciate them/care about them.

@spektrum I tend to say "jeg er glad i deg" instead of "jeg elsker deg", because the latter sounds like such a cliche.
