@BungeeGum “where did you live” is asking someone where did you lived before you moved. And “where are you living” is asking someone where they are living right now.

Where did you live ? - どこに住んでいましたか。
Where were you living? - (今) どこに住んでいますか。
という意味です。^^

Where did you live? = event, you don't live there anymore.
Where were you living when/while/during/etc (an event)?
"Where were you living while you were studying physics?"
"Where were you living while you lived in London?" (a little awkward, but where in the city? and they don't live there anymore)
