Question about Spanish (Spain)

What is the difference between Nunca olvides a quien estuvo ahi cuando nadie mas estaba and Nunca olvides a quien estuvo ahi cuando nadie mas estuvo ?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

I understand that "estuvo" is a 3rd form of Preterito Indefinido, whereas "estaba" is a 3rd person form of Preterito Imperfecto.

What's the slight difference in meaning between "estuvo" vs "estaba" in this sentence.

I feel like "estuvo" signifies a singular, isolated event, whereas "estaba" means a repeated action in the past. Am I correct?

If I were to translate this phrase into English, I would normally use Past Simple for both, but it seems to me "estaba" equals "was being".
