Same difference. The "déjà" (already) adds emphasis on the fact it's not the first time.

The meaning of both these sentences is quite close.
However, by using "déjà" the emphasis is on your experience, whether it happened or not.
Something like 'I have been late to school several times.'
In the second one, it feels more like there is no doubt whether you ever came to school late or not. It maybe feels like the emphasis is on the fact that it happened more than once.
Something like 'I was late to school several times.'
