But I guess when the context is not so clear, I would add some other phrases to just to make things clear.
For example, the context is this............
I (I'm female) am talking with my friends about another male friend when he is not here.
I like him very much but just as a friend, without a romantic feeling :) In that case I would describe my feeling towards him to my friends saying like this.
わたし、彼のこと大好きよ。あ、でも友達としてね。 I like him very much. But just as a friend.

@mimimarie Thank you! May I ask if there is any specific phrases that goes along with it or intonation to tell the difference when the context seems ambiguous?
