"Te amo" is a much more personal expression than "Te quiero".
"Te quiero" can apply as a show of affection.
Meanwhile, "Te amo" is something that is usually more romantic and is intended only for trusted people.

"Te Amo" is stronger than "Te Quiero". Both apply to demonstrate love for each other, you can say "Te Quiero" to your friends or your boyfriend to express affection, but you can say "Te Amo" to a very close member of your family like your parents, siblings, husband, children or maybe your best friend (someone that you really love).
I think something similar could be:
1) Te Quiero = I like it
2) Te Amo = I love it

¨*Te quiero* es cómo una forma resumida de decirte... Te quiero mucho! o te quiero abrazar, besar.... etc etc ! que tambien puede usarse para un amigo o familiar.. Te quiero mucho mamá!
Te quiero is a very possessive phrase. personally don't like it because it treats the other as an object and not as a person. when love is a matter of appreciation and not of possession. but it is a phrase that has been said for a long time and people use it with great affection.
i prefer: I LIKE YOU more than
I want for me! Te quiero para mi!
Te amo is easy it is I love you! :D

@XsimbaX17 "Te quiero" is during a few time, "Te amo" is forever ...
Jeje. I'm joking. Well, "Te amo" is an expression more "affective" (I don't know very well this word) than "te quiero", It usually uses with the girlfriend or boyfriend, according to the case, "Te quiero" is an affective phrase too but no more than the other, so if you have a boyfriend and you love him too much, you must say. "Te amo". "Te quiero" is for friends, family, etc.
Also exists a related phrase "te adoro", this phrase is normally used to famous people, idols, movement leaders, still teachers, etc.
I hope I've helped you
