“En” is a Spanish preposition that translates to many different things in English, i.e. on, in, etc. Here are some additional ways to look at the English side:
“On” - sobre, encima, en
“In” - dentro, adentro, en
“With” - con
“I have two cats, three dogs, and one bird. The bird likes playing with his stick inside the cage, and the cats and dogs really like running around together on the grass.”
You will have to decide if the bird is playing with the stick (jugando con el palo) or playing on the stick (jugando mientras está de pie encima del palo).
