I hear in Thai songs, they always say “ฉัน/ผมรักเธอ” for “I love you” instead of “ฉัน/ผมรักคุณ” Though I thought that เธอ meant “she”... so I’m just confused haha! Please explain 😅

Yesss เธอ means she/her
คุณ means you(every genders) and คุณ is very polite and formal

@emeraldfanta เธอ is neutral, but when in songs or books, usually it is used to refer to she/her.
In everday, conversation you can also hear elders call juniors เธอ ex. teacher calls student เธอ. Or couple call each other เธอ.

I guess with เธอ in ฉัน/ผมรักเธอ, you kinda have to look at the context as well. Without context, เธอ can very well mean you (second-person) or she (third-person). In this case ฉัน/ผมรักเธอ can mean both ‘I love her’ or ‘I love you.’
And yeah คุณ is just a little too formal sometimes.
