When people go to vote in the US, they aren't just voting for the president.
Their one ballot also includes lots of other elections - from Senators/Representatives, to state Senators/Representatives, all the way down to mayors and schoolboards.
So even if they know that their vote for the President is unlikely to make any difference, they can still, at the same time, have a say in lots of other electoral races that will affect their lives.

States are always changing. For example, Texas is a swing state for the first time this year. Also, refusing to vote doesn't work as an act of protest. It just makes you look like a child who doesn't value the right to vote.

As the first reply said, there are also other local elections going on in the same ballot so there's still good reason to go vote.
But for the presidential election itself, yes being in a non swing state can feel very demotivating especially if you're not the majority party there. Many places in the US and political activists have been trying to change the system, but there's a lot of pushback, especially by states and politicians who benefits from the current system so it's slow to change.
