Would often can be considered either past or present depending on the context, I find it most commonly used in writing and not as used during conversation (she would often dance at night / he would often find himself thinking about his family) - used to is for something that is certainly in the past, and is very common in conversation (she used to drink red wine, but now she does not / he used to go to school there before he moved)

@fauntasm Sorry, I can't understand would often can be considered present.
I think would often do=often did
So, sometimes is it wrong?

@reneilA I’m sorry, after thinking about it you are right. I was thinking of how I’d used it in writing fiction in the past tense! I apologize :)
