Why do we use "fratelli" in the following sentence?:
Lui e mia madre sono "fratelli".
Is it because the male gender overrides other genders?
Or it would be "fratelle" if "mia madre" had come before "lui"?

@hr_solei male gender always prevails even if there are 100 women and only one man. But if your mother has a sister you say "sorelle", not "fratelle", which is wrong.
