Please show me example sentences with could you explain me the meaning of -거늘, ım trying to learn this grammer. . Tell me as many daily expressions as possible.

이 세상에 믿을 사람 하나 없'거늘', 무슨 배짱으로 그를 만나겠다는 것이냐?

평화는 모든 이의 염원이'거늘' 어찌 그대 혼자 전쟁을 주장하는가.

사냥꾼도 품속으로 날아든 새는 쏘지 않는다 했'거늘' 하물며 도움을 기대하고 찾아온 신자를 고발하겠소?

~거늘 can be changed into ~지만 and ~ㄴ데. ('however' or 'and') and sometimes, it implies that the latter sentence is correct because of the former sentence (in question form) A거늘, B? -> Although asking, it means B is correct because A happened/ is true. Sad_Korean's sentences are 이 세상에 믿을 사람 하나 없'거늘', 무슨 배짱으로 그를 만나겠다는 것이냐? ->(Direct) There is no one to trust in this world, how do you have guts to face him? -> There is no one to trust in this world, how are you gonna face him? -> You can trust no one, how are you gonna face him when you can't trust him? In this case, it can be changed into "~ㄴ데" 이 세상에 믿을 사람 하나 없는데, 무슨 배짱으로 그를 만나겠다는 것이냐? So, it means you shouldn't face him because you can't trust no one. (B because of A) 평화는 모든 이의 염원이'거늘' 어찌 그대 혼자 전쟁을 주장하는가. ->(direct) Peace is everyone's hope, how do you argue for war alone? -> Everyone wants peace, why do you keep pushing your idea of war? -> You want war when peace is the virtue. Why? 평화는 모든 이의 염원인데 어찌 그대 혼자 전쟁을 주장하는가. So it means you shouldn't insist war because peace is what everyone wants. (B because of A) 사냥꾼도 품속으로 날아든 새는 쏘지 않는다 했'거늘' 하물며 도움을 기대하고 찾아온 신자를 고발하겠소? -> (D)Even a hunter does not shoot a bird that flew in his arms. how can I accuse a believer who came to me expecting for help? So, you can also think '거늘' as '는데', and (I will not accuse you(the believer) ) because (even a hunter doesn't shoot a bird flew in his arms). Actually these are all 'B because of A' sentences. Here are some other examples that don't have that meaning, but have meaning of 'however'. 밖은 벌써 봄이 왔거늘, 우리 집은 쓸쓸하구나. Outside is already Spring, however, my home is lonely. (Being Spring is not a reason of lonely home, so 'however' is much for fitting) 내가 그렇게 하지 말라고 일렀거늘 봉변을 당했구나. I've told you not to do it so many times, however, you're in trouble. (Same, 'however' fits better than 'because/because of') ~거늘 is old tone, so it is in literature, or historical dramas... :D

So, you can also think '거늘' as '는데', and (I will not accuse you(the believer) ) because (even a hunter doesn't shoot a bird flew in his arms).

Actually these are all 'B because of A' sentences.
Here are some other examples that don't have that meaning, but have meaning of 'however'.

밖은 벌써 봄이 왔거늘, 우리 집은 쓸쓸하구나.
Outside is already Spring, however, my home is lonely.
(Being Spring is not a reason of lonely home, so 'however' is much for fitting)
