"It ____ of" - the object contains what you are smelling or tasting inside of it:
The bread tastes of garlic - there is garlic in the bread
The room smells of flowers - there are flowers in the kitchen
"It ____ like" - the object's taste or smell is reminiscent of something different:
The lipstick smells like chocolate - there isn't actual chocolate in the lipstick, but the smell reminds you of it
Pepsi tastes like grape juice - I couldn't think of anything else right now but there probably isn't grape juice in Pepsi
