Why do some trucks have speed limit signs on the back of them? Sometimes I've seen trucks with 3 or 4 speeds (eg, 70, 80, 90...) I thought maybe it was advertising their individual max speed but that doesn't explain why there are multiple speeds listed.

There are special speed limits for trucks. Normally they are not allowed to drive at the same speed as a car. For example in Germany they are allowed to drive 80 km per hour. Some vehicles get exceptions to be allowed to drive at faster speeds. These exceptions have to be documented on their back side. Sure it's only one other speed they are allowed to drive, but as they often drive to different european countries which have different laws that might result in different speeds they are allowed to drive.
Actually I think you more often see it on buses than on trucks. As they also normally would only be allowed to drive 80 but nearly always have exceptions to be allowed to drive up to 100 km/h in Germany.

I had to google that, haha. Yeah, apparently, it's only on trucks that drive through different countries, so it's more of a European thing, not an exclusively German thing.
