Either is fine.
I think horizontally is more often used.

Nowadays we as individuals predominantly write horizontally. Usually the textbook/notebook or the form you're filling in will dictate the direction of writing.

I recommend that you write horizontally. horizontal letters is more usually than vertical letters.

@language-learner101 Yep, that'll be just fine for practising purposes. Vertical writing is just stacking letters one after another from top to bottom as opposed to left from right and there is no differences in the way you write each letters in the most standard font we use, the block font.
