For me I think the construction of the words dosent sound natural
You can say
"Last year, I was mentally troubled"
That sounds better:)
I hope I helped ✨

It sounds good! Maybe I'd change the order a little, "I was having a hard time last year, mentally"
or "I was in a bad place last year"/"Last year I was in a bad place." <<most likely to use these myself (bad place implies mentally already in this context)
If you add mentally it implies mental health issues like anxiety/depression. You probably know this but just wanted to tell you in case that isn't what you meant. Without "mentally" the reason is a bit more ambiguous which some people prefer.

@emilyaycat I think the sentence that I wrote wasn't the one that I wanted to say. I meant " Last year, I had marriage problems. It gave me a hart time. It broke my heart." I wanted to express these. Especially "It broke my heart " How can I say more naturally?

@Pinetreesong esong "Last year , due to some heart-breaking marriage issues , I had a hard time doing *whatever the reason was* "
I am not sure about this but I think it's ok😳
Also I hope you are well
