What is the difference between what is the difference between had been , had and was. all are past participle, past perfect and how to differentiate these three and why can't we use had instead of "was" places ?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

Present perfect (has been) is for continual or habitual things that are still happening. "I have been sick since yesterday."
Simple past (was) is for single events in the past that are complete. "I was sick yesterday, but I'm better today."
Past perfect (had been) is for continual or habitual things that are complete. "I had been sick from 2018 to 2019, but I was better in 2020."
