There isn't really much of a difference other than perhaps intensity. A tumble could mean a less severe fall.
You could tumble off the steps or tumble off the porch. A fall makes you think of something more serious. Like falling off the roof. Falling over the cliff. Falling out of a tree. But it would depend on the context.
