마치 ~ : like(with the nuance of 'as if' in English) ~ --> When assuming/imagining something not real.
그 곳은 너무 평화로와서 마치 천국 같았다. that place was very peaceful so (similar) like a paradise. --> actually it is not though.
~처럼 : like ~ --> when you are comparing two things. (with 'as much as' nuance)
새처럼 날 수 있으면 좋겠다. I wish i could fly like a bird.
