estar en pie refers to things like statues, monuments, buildings, etc..
estar de pie refers to people.

@JayShiShei Pero he visto expresiones tales como “ponerse/sostenerse/mantenerse/quedarse en/de pie”, es decir en algunos casos, especialmente en lo que se refiere a la gente, son casi lo mismo, no?

@hui_yuan en lo que refiere a la gente si, aunque sostenerse en/de pie no existe, las otras si las puedes combinar.
lo que no se usa es 'de pie' para las estructuras combinado con los verbos antese mencionados.
