안녕하세요 여러분!
As I’m mastering reading and writing 한글 I would love to know why some letters are pronounced differently at the beginning of words unlike the middle or the end of them.
I’ve noticed that:
• “ㄱ” turns to “ㅋ”
• “ㅅ” turns to “ㅆ” (I think?)
• “ㅈ“ turns to “ㅊ”
• “ㄷ” turns to “ㅌ”
and so on—
Is there a specific rule here? and is there any other rules would you like to inform me about when it comes to pronunciations?
감사합니다!

When ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅈ come at the beginning of a word, they become voiceless (no larynx vibration) and slightly aspirated (with a weak burst of breath), which may sound similar to ㅋ, ㅌ, ㅍ, ㅊ for beginners, which are voiceless and strongly aspirated (with a strong burst of breath), but they are definitely different and distinguished in Korean.
