@tmangupos It differs from "Bundesland" to "Bundesland" but it usually starts in August/September and ends in June/July. The summer break is 6 weeks.

It‘s a federal state like the US, but in contrast to your nationwide school system each of the 16 German states has its own rules and regulations regarding schools. This implies different beginnings and endings of the school year.
Go to www.schulferien.org and you‘ll notice all the differences.
As a general rule you can say that school starts between July and September ending 46 weeks after.
The summer holidays last 6 weeks in all the states.
